During Fish’s tenure with Marillion in the 1980s, the group achieved considerable success with him as their vocalist, particularly with albums like 1983’s Script for a Jester's Tear, 1984’s Fugazi and 1985’s Misplaced Childhood. These albums helped establish Marillion as one of the leading bands in the neo-progressive rock movement.
Fish's time with Marillion came to an end in 1988, after which he pursued a hugely successful solo career. His debut solo album, Vigil in a Wilderness of Mirrors, surfaced in 1990. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Fish continued to release solo albums, often exploring themes such as politics, society, and personal introspection.
His solo discography includes the albums Internal Exile (1991), Sunsets on Empire (1997), Raingods with Zippos (1999), and 13th Star (2007). Fish's music is characterized by his distinctive vocal style, emotive lyrics, and a blend of rock, progressive, and folk influences.
In 2001, following the stunning success of his final studio album Weltschmerz in 2020, Fish performed at The Assembly in Leamington Spa, which included a very special global broadcast concert of his last ever full and final performance of his 1990 solo debut, Vigil In A Wilderness Of Mirrors.
Aside from his musical career, Fish has also been involved in acting and writing. He has published several volumes of his autobiography and has appeared in various theatrical productions. He also posts a YouTube vlog on Fridays, called Fish On Friday which you can check out below!
