Artist Spotlight: Yard Act

Leeds post-punk rock group, Yard Act – comprised of vocalist & lyricist James Smith, bassist Ryan Needham, guitarist Sam Shipstone and Jay Russell on drums – began life in 2019.

With cynical and often political lyrics, the band often use their songwriting to discuss tough subjects including social class or their opposition to corruption and capitalism.

Their debut album, The Overload, was released in January 2022. Their upcoming second album, Where's My Utopia?, will be released next month, in March 2024, and takes inspiration from an array of places, including artists Fela Kuti and Ennio Moricone.
