A message from The Tyne Theatre & Opera House:

#BeOurGhostLight

Back in March, we switched on our ghost light, a small electric lamp, which is traditionally left on stage to illuminate a theatre when unoccupied and in complete darkness.

Whilst all theatre’s have their own individual ghost light and their own explanation of its origin, for us all, the ghost light serves as a beacon of hope, ensuring the theatre never goes completely dark.

With recent events, this is indeed a time of darkness for not just Tyne Theatre & Opera House but all other theatres and venues – staff, crew, artists and audiences. Our ghost light reminds us that there will be light in the theatre again.

Our theatre opened in 1867, with the vision that it would be a ‘theatre for everyone’ and despite hardships we have managed to stay true to this ethos for over 150 years – but we couldn’t have done this without your support. Now, more than ever, we need you to support the theatre. We need you to be our Ghost Light.
