How to get your festival fix at home

The 2020 festival season would’ve been well underway by now – whilst we know the postponement of this summer’s festivals is a necessity, it’s still high up on the list of things we miss. This summer, getting your festival fix will have to be a little different; here are the best ways to get a taste of festival life from your home.

Download Festival

Download are going virtual, on the dates it would’ve been held, 12-14 June – with Download TV. The online event will feature the headliners that would’ve been taking to the stage. Friday will see KISS’ standout moments from the 2015 festival, Saturday will feature Iron Maiden’s nostalgic performances, Legacy Of The Beast snippets and something exclusively for Download TV, and System of a Down headline Sunday night with their 2005, 2011, and 2017 performances.

Plus fans can also enjoy performances from Deftones, Babymetal, Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, Creeper, The Offspring, Blues Pills, Alter Bridge, The Pretty Reckless, Funeral For A Friend, Volbeat, The Darkness, Bowling For Soup and some more very special guests.

Glastonbury Festival

BBC are set to show a variety of Glastonbury highlights, celebrating what would’ve been its 50th anniversary. Legendary sets from superstars Beyoncé, Adele, Coldplay, David Bowie, Jay-Z will be shown on BBC Two and BBC Four. Plus a new pop-up channel will be on BBC iPlayer, playing more than 60 historic sets.

BBC Sounds playlists will have 20 archive performances and all day Glastonbury curated collections of back-to-back sets. From Monday 22 June, Jo Whiley will present a series of special shows on BBC Radio 2. 

Isle of Wight Festival

Absolute Radio will be celebrating some of the most iconic performances from the Isle of Wight festival. They’ll be playing performances from the festival from the likes of Paul McCartney, Foo Fighters, Fleetwood Mac, David Bowie, Coldplay, The Rolling Stones, The Who (1970 performance), Sheryl Crow and more. 

Absolute Radio will be airing the performances when the festival would’ve taken place: 12-14 June. The event will be hosted by Sarah Champion, Ben Burrell, Danielle Perry, Ross Buchanan and Bush and Richie across the weekend. 

Radio 1’s Big Weekend

Big Weekend 2020 would’ve taken place on 22-24 May, but they went virtual instead. If you haven’t already watched it, you can catch up on BBC iPlayer. The virtual festival featured performances from the artists who had been set to play, from their homes. The line-up includes Jonas Brothers, Sean Paul, Sam Smith, Niall Horan, Aitch, AJ Tracey and more. Plus there’s also legendary performances from previous Big Weekends, including Ed Sheeran, Lady Gaga and Jay-Z.
